Old i5 as a NAS
Had an i5-4590 and a Gigabyte H97M-D3H sitting in a closet since 2020. Finally pulled them out and stuck them in an old Fractal Define Mini case. Board has 6 SATA III ports which is more than enough. Four WD Red Plus 4TB in RAIDZ1 on TrueNAS Scale, one NVMe for boot via a PCIe adapter. 16GB DDR3 from the original build. Whole thing idles around 45W which is worse than an N100 box but the price was zero. Runs Jellyfin and SMB shares. Good enough.
